Homemade Market

In Liman Mahellesi every Tuesday there is a large fruit and veg market held in a large covered area set aside for exactly that purpose.

However, every Saturday for the past two months there have been a group of ladies who have been setting up stalls there to sell their homemade food, clothing, jewellery and handicrafts.

I have been a regular customer to the food stalls as I love homemade cooking, not to mention the fact their prices are quite reasonable.

They told me that it is actually a government scheme and that other groups of housewives are doing something similar in different parts of the town.  I think this is a great idea and I wanted to support them a bit so I made this video to show what they have to offer.

Be careful though if you try their Spicy Sauce because it damn near blew the top of my head right off!  It didn’t stop me finishing the jar though as I’m Scottish and if I paid for it I will finish it even though I’m sure my guts weren’t too happy about that fact.

Still, I did strangely love torturing myself with it, although I’ve not been brave enough to buy another jar since.

You can order food from one of the ladies, Nilgün Gülen, by phoning her on 0507 375 9324 or checking out her website. www.nilgununlezzetleri.com

Very cool! I need to check it out one of these Saturdays, or see if there is one in Altinkum.
